Earth Month Weekend Special April 24 & 25
Join Cindy Ramseyer, botanist and naturalist, for a woods walk Saturday, April 24 at 10:00 A.M. At Justin Trails Resort, she has found numerous ecosystems including oak savannas, dry mesic forest, and spring fed draws. Following the Aldo Leopold and John Muir traditions that led Senator Gaylord Nelson to begin Earth Day 40 years ago celebrate Earth Month with time spent in a quiet, peaceful privately owned natural area here at Justin Trails Resort. Bring your camera.
This past Sunday Cindy, Valerie and I walked the forest getting photos and identifying wild ginger, Partridgeberry, early meadow rue, skunk cabbage, wild geranium, and Rattlesnake orchid to name a few.
Finish the hike with a local native lunch of watercress and organic greens, nutritious, delicious Swedish nettle soup, rhubarb crisp and Pepin Orchards fresh squeezed apple juice.

Feeling more energetic, there is a Handy Person Special going on April 24 & 25 to cut box elder trees and create a huge bonfire for a marshmallow roast. Lunch and dinner provided for workers working four hours/day in exchange for a $50/night stay in your choice of available lodging.
Campground is open with firewood available at each campsite. Disc golf courses are open and easy to play with the grasses still short.
May 7, 8 & 9 Morel Mushroom Foray & Feast Charles will lead identification of morel mushroom habitat. Cindy will lead identification of spring ephemerals–May apples, wood anemone, trillium, Solomon seal, jack-in-the pulpit, trout lilies & more. We’ll all help create a huge evening bonfire. September 18th will be an Apple festival at Justin Trails Resort. Cindy and Charles Ramseyer will bring their antique apple press, we have a 20 gallon copper apple butter kettle for making apple butter. Bring some apples or pick some wild apples from our trees and take home your own cider and apple butter.
