In the news…WI State Journal CNN, Channel 19….

November 3rd, 2012 by innkeeper

WI State Journal used 5 photos of Justin Trails Resort on an article about Farm Vacations 9/30/12. CNN carried a story on best places to stay while fishing and huting 10/03/12. Channel 19 Autumn Apple Adventure 10/20/12.

Don and I are honored to have Qiaoyu Lin as a Graduate student intern from UWL-Recreation Management Program this semester. She shared customs of Chinese weddings, models wore several typical dresses and participants nibbled authentic Chinese high treats from a La Crosse tea shop. Fall/Winter brings us back to the woodland, girdling invasive trees, controlled burns, burning brush piles and scattering seeds.

Thinking about snow. Today trails are getting a bulldozer grooming to level the bellied, erosion spots, improve drainage, and widen narrow spots. Tomorrow we seed them with winter rye to control erosion. The barn’s belly button has been put back in place thanks to Charles, Don & Ken.

It’s been a busy summer…

July 8th, 2012 by innkeeper

Dawn, our daughter, joined Don and me in hosting the Drum Circle in July.

Ben Robel, Vegetation Solutions grazed his goats on some of the disc golf course in May. Today they are grazing in the Fish and Wildlife Oak Savanna Project visible from our buildings.

Farmer Don and Farmer Ed discussing crop rotation on the organic crop land. We’ve been blessed with heavy clay soil and adequate rainfall so the crops, lawn and flowers are all looking very happy and green. Ed’s crops this year include winter rye, corn for silage & alfalfa.

We are honored to be included in “Resorts of Wisconsin” by Adam Swenson and Neil E. Johnson. The 200 page coffee table book has 6 pages of photos and story for each of 21 resorts telling their unique history and specialty. Purchase in our gift shop.

We here at Justin Trails Resort would like to invite you to our Sparta Bed and Breakfast for a very unique celebration on July 23,2011. This day is revered on the Mayan Calender as the closing of the previous year and the day in between the opening of the new year.

The day will be celebrated with a drum circle and other entertainment. Starting at 3 p.m., bring your drums and sit in for a class on the basics of drum circles. Then take a llama trek from 5 to 7 p.m.  and eat dinner to get energized before the main community drum circle begins.

Cut 35 cords of wood for the campground
Cut 10 cords of wood for Wally the chipper to create mulch for trails & gardens
Cleaned 1000 feet of field edge of down & dead wood
Identified and removed invasive species buckthorn, honeysuckle, barberry & garlic mustard
Control burned 7 acres
Planted 2 #s of native seeds to create prairie
Inoculated 21 logs with shiitake mushroom plugs
Ate great food at tailgate parties and dinners in The Lodge
Exercised our muscles, made new friends
Felt great satisfaction in a job well begun…there’s lots more to do.
