Justin Trails Open a Honey of a Tournament!

area-3

Justin Trails Open (JTO) is the last stop on the Wisconsin Disc Golf Tour, the last chance to qualify for the Tour finale and the last chance to earn a coveted black disc. The Wisconsin Disc Golf Tour coordinates a 7 month schedule at 17 locations statewide and tracks player’s scores for a series of tournaments. The tour awards the “most coveted” black disc for each division’s champion at each tour stop. At the end of the season, trophies are awarded to the state champion in each division at the end of the season finale October 8th at Dretzka Park in Milwaukee Wisconsin.

We are especially proud of the hard work our disc golf community put into design, maintaining and upgrading our disc golf courses. This year we changed the beginning of the Classic Course by removing 1, 5 and 6. Now it’s a walk on the flat ground to # 1 playing back toward the barn, new t-pad for #2. # 5 is a new hole across a small ravine. # 10 is a new hole left of the pond on the trail. Big Brother now has concrete on short t-pads on #’s 6, 11, 12, 16 and 18.” – Donna Justin

“Quite honestly, my heart is smiling bigger than the grin on my face because of all of the positive feedback we got on the courses! David McConahay, Chuck Heiam, myself and several others have been working our butts off to make sure the courses looked the best they ever have, and they definitely did! I can’t wait to get back to work next week and to keep improving them!” – Rebecca Heiam

“If I die and heaven looks like this, I’ll be happy!” – Exclaimed Tom McManus during his acceptance speech as he was awarded first place in the Advanced Grandmasters Division.

“One of the premiere courses in the state.” – Mike Collins. Mike is the father of Hunter Collins, the 2016 World Champion in the Junior III Boys Division. Hunter, from Portage WI, has been playing disc golf for 8 years. He started playing when he was 4 years old!
Tom Yang’s 2016 JTO Honey Basket Tournament disc design echoed these accolades. “Honey of disc selection, honey of a tournament!”

The Justin Trails Open took place in the Driftless Area of Wisconsin characterized by unglaciated landscape with steep hills, coulees and meadows. Players enjoyed two contrasting courses: Classic and Big Brother. Classic challenges your skill and Big Brother requires lots of energy as you wind up and down hills through beautiful woods. Josh Hamm, with co-director Don Duster Hoffman, directed this stop and being the last point earning stop of the WI Disc Golf Tour there was often drama for players trying to either qualify for the Finale or win their Division.

Joey Erno (-7) “Second advanced black disc ever and second this year! Won Justin Trails Open by 3 strokes! Had the lead after round one and held it through round 2. Also with this win, I’m the 2016 Wisconsin Tour Champion for Advanced!”
