Restaurants in Sparta Worth the Drive and the Bite

Restaurants in Sparta surprise many visitors, but in a good way. We're lucky to live where comfort and flavor share the same plate. We've tried nearly everything this town offers. Some spots win us over with charm. Others win us with one unforgettable bite. Most manage both.

It's more than the food; it's the entire atmosphere. It's the warm welcomes, the tucked-away tables, and the owners who remember your name. That's what keeps people coming back. The pace is slower. The flavors run deep. And no one's rushing you out the door.

You'll find old-school diners, family-run gems, and bold little spots doing big things. Each one adds its own flavorful charm.

We're sharing our favorites with you, the ones that stick and call you back for a second helping. We want you to eat well, feel at home, and leave with stories worth sharing.

Dorine’s Family Inn

Dorine's Family Inn feels like comfort food in a cozy booth — warm and filling. Locals love it. Travelers stumble in, then come back with friends. Everything's homemade, served hot, and delivered with a familiar smile. Their pancakes are golden. Their burgers are juicy. The omelets hold nothing back.

It's not fancy. It's real. And it's packed full of Sparta dining charm.

The menu's long. It serves breakfast all day, which is beautiful. You'll leave full and happy, planning your next trip before you reach the car.

Matsumoto Ramen House

Matsumoto Ramen House is bold, cozy, and flavorful, hitting just the right note. This little ramen spot proves that Sparta dining has stepped up lately. The broth is rich, the noodles are fresh, and every bowl feels like a hug. Some of our guests have eaten Ramen all over the world and still raved that Matsumoto’s noodles are the best.

Go straight for the miso or tonkatsu. Both are satisfying and soul-warming. Vegetarian? They've got you covered.

Service is quick, but you'll want to stay and soak up the vibe. Kick back and enjoy yourself. The atmosphere is relaxed, but the flavors are anything but. This spot has comfort food reimagined.

El Caporal Mexican Restaurant

El Caporal brings color, flavor, and a lot of sizzle to restaurants in Sparta. It's a go-to when you're craving big plates, fresh salsa, and a cold margarita.

You'll love the parrillada; it's the perfect dinner for two. The seafood fajita is a close second. Everything hits the table fast and fresh.

You'll feel welcome the moment you walk in. Service is quick. The portions are generous enough to split, but you won't want to. This place is bright, fun, and always a hit when we've got a hungry crew.

The Stockyard Grill & Saloon

You'll smell the pizza before you even open the door. That's always a good sign. The Stockyard Grill in Coon Valley is about a 30-minute drive from Justin Trails. It exudes casual vibes but packs serious flavor, and our guests love it! The pizza crust is thin, crispy, and made in-house. Toppings are fresh, generous, and never skimpy. Try the Chipotle chicken pizza. The Meat Lovers pie gets plenty of love, too.

Stockyard also runs daily specials that are worth timing your visit around. Fish fry Fridays always draw a crowd. Pasta and wine on Wednesdays feel like a little celebration. And Thursdays mean burgers and wine... and a great excuse to stop by midweek.

This place is easygoing, affordable, and satisfying. It's perfect for groups or anyone hungry after a Driftless Wisconsin hike.

Slice of Chicago

Speaking of pizza, we also consider Slice of Chicago among the best restaurants in Sparta. It's all about the crust, sauce, and the cheesy layers that never disappoint. They do deep dish right. But their thin-crust pies also have loyal fans.

Famished? Grab a Belly Buster with cheese, sausage, mushrooms, onions, and green pepper. Although you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. It's fast, affordable, and easy to take on the go or enjoy at a quiet table. There’s no frills, no fuss — just solid pizza and friendly folks who make it local.

Beyond the Plate in Sparta

Yes, there's more than great food here. You'll find plenty of fun things to do in Sparta, too. Start with the trails right here at the inn. Our property is big and beautiful. Wander through peaceful woods, open meadows, and scenic overlooks without leaving the grounds.

Want to venture offsite? You've got plenty of local hiking trails to check out, too. Biking the Elroy-Sparta trail is another guest favorite. Ride through tunnels, trees, and Driftless charm.

Motorcycle rides around this area are scenic and quiet. There's no traffic, just wide, winding roads. Riders love the curves, the fresh air, and how the Driftless hills open up ahead.

Tenba Ridge Winery sits high above the hills and pours with heart. It's a must-stop on any romantic getaway. It's also a favorite sunset spot for our guests.
