Where to See Fall Colors

You won't have to go far to catch peak fall colors; they surround you here. Wildcat Mountain State Park lights up in October with golden oaks, scarlet maples, and coppery ridgelines. The Old Settler's Trail and Hemlock Trail offer wooded stretches and panoramic valley views.

Looking for a quick reward? Head to the Prairie Trail overlook for soft light and bold color. It's nature's canvas at its best.

Closer to home, many guests walk to our Wildlife Observation Station on the hilltop. It's a quiet spot for cider sipping and watching the hills shift from green to gold.

Want a dramatic overlook? Grandad's Bluff, near La Crosse, offers a sweeping view of fall color. You'll see treetops blazing and the Mississippi River stretching wide below.

Early mornings are quiet. Trails glow, and the views feel like your own private escape. Some guests bring cocoa and a blanket for a mid-morning date. Others just walk with a camera. Whatever your style, this park delivers fall in full color. Every direction you turn is stunning.

Stargazing Near Wildcat Mountain

Clear skies and quiet hills make Wildcat Mountain State Park a dream for stargazing couples. Got dark sky dreams? We've had guests spot the Milky Way for the first time right outside our resort.

Nearby Kickapoo Valley Reserve offers plenty of dark sky adventures. We’re talking big, open views for late-night skywatching. It's also a great spot to catch moonrises and wide-sky sunsets before the stars appear.

Bring a blanket, a thermos, and someone who doesn't mind staying up late. You won't hear traffic or crowds — just crickets, wind, and maybe your own laughter. Some nights, the stars feel close enough to touch. It's one of our favorite ways to end a fall evening.
